This policy sets out what you may not do with services provided by Virtual Minds Hub Enterprise (“Vemhost”). It exists because our servers are shared: one account’s behaviour affects every other customer on the same machine, particularly where email reputation is concerned. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Prohibited content and activity
- Anything unlawful under the laws that apply to you or to us.
- Malware, viruses, ransomware, exploit kits, or tools designed to gain unauthorised access to systems.
- Phishing pages, fraudulent websites, or content impersonating another person, business or institution.
- Material infringing someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights.
- Child sexual abuse material. This results in immediate termination and a report to the authorities.
- Attacking others from our network: port scanning, denial-of-service, brute-force attempts, or unauthorised vulnerability testing.
- Cryptocurrency mining, and other activity whose main purpose is consuming computing resources.
- Adult or sexually explicit content.
2. Email
Email abuse is the fastest way to damage a shared server, because blocklisting affects every customer on it. You must not:
- Send unsolicited bulk or commercial email, whatever it is called. Every recipient must have opted in, and you must be able to show when and how.
- Send to purchased, rented, scraped or harvested address lists.
- Forge headers, sender addresses or return paths, or relay mail through third-party servers without permission.
- Operate an open relay or open proxy.
- Run mailing lists without a working unsubscribe mechanism that is honoured promptly.
Automatic forwarding of unfiltered mail to external providers is discouraged: forwarded spam is attributed to our server and harms delivery for everyone.
3. Resource use
Shared hosting is sold on the basis of typical use. You must not run processes that consume disproportionate CPU, memory, disk, database or network capacity to the detriment of other accounts. Where usage is causing problems we will contact you to discuss it, which may mean optimising the site or moving to a larger plan. We may throttle or suspend a service that is actively degrading the server.
4. Your security obligations
Most compromised accounts are the result of outdated software. You must:
- Keep applications, themes and plugins updated, and remove those you no longer use.
- Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication where it is offered.
- Act promptly on any malware or security notice we send you.
We scan hosted accounts for malware. We may quarantine files that are actively malicious, and will tell you when we do.
5. Enforcement
Where possible we will contact you first and give you a reasonable chance to fix the problem. Where a breach is causing active harm — spam in progress, a live phishing page, an attack on another network — we will suspend the service immediately and inform you afterwards. Serious or repeated breaches may result in termination without refund.
6. Reporting abuse
To report abuse involving our services, email abuse@vemhost.net with the relevant URLs, full email headers, or log extracts with timestamps and time zone. We investigate every report.
